pH-guided myocardial management is a new
practice in cardiac surgical care made possible
by the development of reliable sensors that
continuously monitor myocardial tissue pH
during cardiac surgery.
Guided by the on-line measurement of
myocardial pH in both the anterior and
the posterior walls of the left ventricle,
the surgeon employs a compendium of
maneuvers and techniques aimed at the
prevention and/or reversal of
intraoperative myocardial ischemia.
